Take a listen to our podcast from the mayor talking about the West Norfolk Young Carers.

We began supporting young carers in West Norfolk in 2007 and have provided groups and outside activities for 57 young carers to date. Currently we have a young carer’s leader who works 12 hours a week and 1 sessional worker who work 3 hours a week and 2 volunteers who help at the groups and outings.

All the staff is CRB checked and are managed by Jane Evans, our manager. We aim to give the young carers something of their own, listen to them and provide the activities they want. We have two groups; one for 7 to 12 year olds and one for 12 to 18 year olds, the younger ones move up when they feel they are ready.

We also offer support to our young carers and work alongside other agencies and are able to access greater support if we feel the children need it.

We are a voluntary organisation that has no government or local county council funding for our young carers groups. Our young Carers groups are funded by donations from charitable organisations and fundraising.
Our aim is to give our young carers a break from there caring duties away from the caring environment.

This summer we took all our young carers to Lego-Land this was funded by Marlins Wand it was such a delight to hear the excitement and cheers of the children as the bus pulled in to LEGOLAND. The Children we support would not be able to have a day out like this as the parents / sibling they are caring for would not be able to organise or attend place such as LEGOLAND. This gives the children time to be a child and have fun.
All our young Carers care on various levels from looking after Parents helping and doing house hold chores, to supporting Siblings who have a disability.

We also have a Service called Linking Together this group supports Children who are affected by other people substance misuse age 7-18. This group meets 1 Saturday a month, this group currently has 9 children.
We have also been trying to raise funds for equipment for our youth group, we would be very grateful if you could help us with this anyway possible
