King's Lynn Christmas lights 2012

30th November 2012

It was a very cold night on the Tuesday Market place last night but still thousands braved the weather to see the start of Christmas and this year’s special guest, Disctrict 3 from the X Factor.  The guys performed 4 numbers to the screaming girls and our very own Adam Newstead who is a secret fan.

Also on the night the cast of this years Panto at the Corn Exchange helped with the switch on with a little of from King's Lynn and West Norfolk's Mayor and the wonderful Poppy.

Question is did we snap you on the night?  Have a look at my selection of pictures.

Don't forget you can win tickets for Aladdin at the King's Lynn Corn Exchange all next week on Hometime after 4pm.

Goodnight Britain

28th November 2012

Paul Ashbury from King's Lynn is the star of a show on BBC1 tonight called "Goodnight Britain" which follows severe sleep disorders such as night terrors, loud snores, sleep walking even finding themselves in the kitchen cooking!

For Paul it was life threatening, make sure you give it a watch at 9pm.

Hear what he had to say on todays show here.

Do you have any bad sleep habits?  Tweet me via @simonrowe

  • Ria said her husband sneezes, farts and coughs
  • Julie-Anne in King's Lynn has conversations and fights with her other half about complicated issues
  • Marie's husband stops breathing sometimes and she used to try and climb out of the  window
  • Amy's fiancée snores and fidgets like crazy. He fidgets that much it makes stay still all night
  • Tina Arnold talks in my sleep and apparently move about too
  • Caitlin Legget tunrs her lights on and of twice and always has a bottle of water by the bed
  • Colletes brother used to talk about horse racing in his sleep and would ask, who was the winner?

The DJ that saved Christmas

27th November 2012

Today I spent the morning treading the boards at the Princess Theatre in Hunstanton preparing for my role in their Christmas Show.  I'm only in a few of the shows but they put me through my paces today as we rehearsed my scene in which I escape an evil woman, I've said too much already!

Here's a sneaky peek behind the scenes....

King's Lynn Police - Family Room - UPDATE

22nd November 2012

FROM 23/10/12

What an amazing day!  Thanks to everyone who listened and helped KL.FM help King's Lynn Police Station. We have been completely blown away by the generosity of everyone.

Please read my previous blog entry for full details, but thanks to KL.FM listeners children who find themselves at the Police Station through no fault of their own, when their carer or parents have done something wrong and have nowhere else to go, will thanks to you feel a little bit more at home, a little bit more at ease and less intimidated by their surroundings.

On Tuesday 20th November I delivered the donations below to King's Lynn Police Station who were overwhlemed by the sheer amount of goodies I delivered in our Storm from Duff Morgan Citroen.  The family room really is tiny and didn't feel very welcoming for a child.  But now thanks to you it's much better.  Hear what PCSO Daina Rayfield had to say about the donations and how the room is used.

Here are all the wonderful people that have made this possible and their amazing donations.

  • Everyone at BookLife in Kings Lynn who've donated £250 worth of books.
  • Nannette in King's Lynn who gave us a Travel Cot.
  • Mick in King's Lynn gave a booster seat to help the Police transport children safely.
  • Tammy at Norfolk Tea Rooms who provided nappies and a changing mat.
  • Kenny from AM Painting Services who has offered to spruce the room up.
  • The Gunnel Family who gave us loads of colouring pens, pencils & colouring stuff.
  • Matt in King's Lynn offered his sons old games for the Game Cube.
  • Richard at Bookers Cash & Carry has given a couple of crates of cartons of drink.
  • Sarah Kirk has given us another booster seat.
  • Ami and the Community Team at Tesco’s, Hardwick provided nappies and wipes.
  • Mel and the team at Mothercare donated a travel cot, sheets and bedding.
  • An amazing Spiderman ride on car for toddlers from Tot Cars.
  • A sofa for children to feel more at home rather than office chairs from April at the Burger Bar.
  • 2 car seats and a baby carrier from Mandy Kenna in King's Lynn.
  • Some amazing toys and educational activities from Learning Resources in King's Lynn.
  • Booster seats and a Mama's & Papas doll with pram from Abi in Narborough
  • Francis Bone is an interior designer and has offered his services to make the room nicer.
  • Didi & Linda from Lynn have an unused booster seat for us.
  • Fozzy from our travel cupboard has donated some old Game Cube games.
  • The staff at CEX in Lynn also dipped in to their own pockets for some Game Cube stuff too.
  • Michelle in King's Lynn would also like to help design the new layout of the room

Thanks everyone so much!

I'm really blown away by the response to this

Churchill Park - King's Lynn

22nd November 2012

YesterdaChurchill park Schooly Super Trooper Bear & I spent the most amazing morning with the wonderful pupils and staff at Churchill Park School in King's Lynn.  They are a Complex Needs school for children from the age of 3 to 19 years. They have 152 pupils, all with a very diverse range of needs.

The purpose of my visit was to introduce the children to KL.FM's furry mascot and also to add to what was already going to be a very special day for them.  Paralympics Swimmer, Fran Williamson was there giving a motivational talk to the children and showing of her many gold and silver medals. During her career she competed at two Paralympic Games in Athens and Beijing, winning four silvers and two bronzes.

Whilst there I also recorded the children's jokes which will be played during "Home-time" in December on "Kidz Klues".

You can hear my full interview with Fran below and check out some of the fun we had with the pictures too.

Super Trooper 1st day at School

16th November 2012

It’s fair to say we are very proud parents at KL.FM 96.7, our very lovely Super Trooper Bear had his first ever day at school this afternoon.  He only went for half a day because at a big school like Springwood High it’s obviously very daunting for a bear.

Super Trooper had a couple of free periods so he soon made friends in the social area. The girls in his class really took a shine to his dungarees and him, although he won’t admit it, we think he’s got a new girlfriend! At lunch time he shared his honey sandwich with the lady in question.

Now he is having a well deserved nap under the stairs at KLFM before he goes out to the woods to play.

See some of his mates and the fun he had on his first day of what we hope will shape his bright bear future.Super Trooper School

Whilst at school Super Trooper met all of the singers on Springwood High's Charity Single "Behind the Mask" which features our very own Ash Pablo Bower, from travel, in the choir.

See behind the scenes of the song below...

Help them get to number 1 and download their song from Itunes with this link.

Movember Update

11th November 2012

MOVEMBER - GRANT FILM STRIPDuring November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

As you may know Grant from Adrian Flux is growing a moustache for Momevember as the boys including myself at KL.FM have not been granted permission from the KL.FM W.A.G.S!

Please click here to donate anything you can to say balls to cancer!

 For more info visit http://uk.movember.com/about/

Once registered at movember.com each Mo Bro must begin the 1st of Movember with a clean shaven face. For the entire month each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache. There is to be no joining of the mo to the sideburns (that’s considered a beard), there’s to be no joining of the handlebars to the chin (that’s considered a goatee) and each Mo Bro must conduct himself like a true gentleman.

A Mo Sista is essentially a woman who loves a Mo. An individual that is dedicated to supporting the Mo Bros in her life through their moustache growing journey; whether it be a friend, colleague, family member or partner. These inspirational women are committed to raising awareness of men's health issues and much needed funds for men's health along the way.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

At the end of the month, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their Movember journey throwing their own Movember parties or attending one of the Gala Partés held around the world to stand tall and celebrate the moustache.

King's Lynn 3 - 0 Eastbourne

11th November 2012

Yesterday my son, the KFLM Storm Trooper and I visited the Walks in King's Lynn for a much needed dose of local of football.  The Linnets were in FA Trophy action against Eastbourne who are only 2 seasons away from professional football, but even with this experience gap the visitors knew King's Lynn were on roll of amazing form.  The first 45 minutes saw Lynn remain lucky not to have gone a goal or two down but as ever the managers’ team talk at half time put a whole different spin on the 2nd half, so much so the whole team won the "Man of the Match" award!

It ended King's Lynn 3 - 0 Eastbourne and here are the views of KLTFC gaffer Gary Setchell.

(With thanks to EDP and Lynn News)

I'm a newsreader get me out of here!

9th November 2012

Emma who is reading my news this afternoon on "Hometime" was confronted by one of her worst fears on the show today.  A rather large spider had taken residence just above her microphone ahead of the 4pm news. Despite her fear and with the news jingle playing, the show had to go on. Emma presented her update with Incy against every natural instinct in her body to scream and run away.

You'll be pleased to hear Emma survived her traumatic 2 minute bulletin without incident and the spider was carefully placed in a cup and set free into the world of West Norfolk by Ash who reads my travel.

Have a look at what all the fuss was about below!

The Only Way is Swaffham

7th November 2012

On today’s show I'm joined by the cast of Swaffham's "Crazy Beautiful Life".  It's a fly on the wall docu-soap much like TOWIE all though they would cringe if they heard me compare the two.  The guys have allowed a camera crew to follow them around during their daily lives.  After only 3 episodes over 11,000 people have viewed the show on You Tube and tonight, after 8pm the next instalment will go live on the web too.

Have a listen after 4pm to learn more about this TV show set in Swaffham, about Swaffham, Swaffham people and Swaffham life.

Meantime check out episode one below

On arrival at KL.FM today I was greeted by the morning's post, usualy I find CD's, competition prizes, pleas for help and lots of details about local events, today was different, very different!

 Doreen

This is the very lovingly made item from a concerned listener to my show which was delivered to KL.FM this morning.  The little note that arrived with said item read: "I hope this will keep your bits + pieces warm while you are out & about this winter, Lots of love Doreen."

She only sent one so my other hand will be cold?

Movember 2012

5th November 2012

Once again men across Norfolk are growing tiny caterpillars on their top lip in the name of beating Cancer!  The Team at KL.FM were challenged to do this, but in all honestly the KL.FM W.A.G.S said "No Way", it would probably take me a year to grow anything anyway!

One man who is going to help raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer is Grant from Adrian Flux who has agreed to grow one for me!

I'll be following his progress on my blog and chatting to him on my show over the month.

Here is his picture on November 1st
