KL.FM Going Green
Here at KL.FM 96.7 we are passionate about being green and here you will find loads of useful tips and advice on how to be greener and save money.
We have appointed our very own 'Green Goddess' in the form of Alix Young who also reads the news in the afternoon. Alix is very passionate about being green and is striving to make KL.FM a greener place to work even if she drives us all slightly mad in the process!
Being green can be simple and that's why she's in charge making sure everything from lights to printers are turned off before she goes home at night!
Below are some more of Green Goddess' top tips.
- Change as many lightbulbs as you can to energy efficient ones..they use much less electricity and last longer.
- Collect rainwater to water your plants.
- Recycle everything you can..household rubbish and compost old foodstuffs.
- NEVER leave tv's..video's or any other electrical appliance on standby..It costs money and is very environmentally unfriendly.
- Drive at a constant speed and avoid speeding up and slowing down..it'll save your fuel and is green.
- Use paper again, if it's blank on one side for phone pads or for the children.
- If you're in traffic for a while consider turning off your engine.
- Turn your heating down by 10 degrees..you won't feel the difference...but your bill will be lower.
- Did you know, when newspapers are recycled, they can be turned back into a new newspaper in just seven days.
- Clean cans and Plastic Bottles but not the tops can all be recycled, make an effort and don't bin them - recycle them.
- Only 1 third of cans are recycled, please don't just throw them away - recycle them.
- Let your kids help you with the recycling, teach us good habits while we're young.
- Last year 11.5 thousand tonnes of rubbish was re-cycled in West Norfolk.
- Did you know that you can now place shredded paper in your brown bin.
- When recycling please don't put it in a carrier bag - lose in the bin is the best way.
- Remember to recycle all hedge clippings, grass and leaves in your brown bin.
- Turn your junk mail into something useful, recycle it - But NO envelopes.
- Did you know you can recycle your telephone directory and the yellow pages too.
- Never put food or kitchen waste in your recycling bin.
- One bottle bank can hold up to 3,000 bottles before it needs to be emptied.
- Never throw glass in the bin.
- Re use scrap paper as a phone pad or for the kids to draw on.
