Still not sure? Have look at our review.

I would say that I have a reasonable level of fitness - I generally go to the gym twice a week and do a bit of running, but I'm certainly no Paula Radcliffe! For those of you who read my blog last year whilst I was training for the GEAR, you will remember I was literally petrified when I first stood on the running track ready for a thrashing from Harry Collins in preparation for my first race training session.

So nearly a year has passed and there I was at LA Fitness enrolling for my first Body Pump class. I thought I'd feel like an old pro now I was fit, and standing in the inviting reception area I felt good. Fast forward 10 minutes and I'm in the middle of the class feeling like the rookie again and aware of every lump and bump in my body having overindulged on my recent holiday. I totally empathise with people who haven't been to the gym in a while, or ever, and think they will feel so out of place and uncomfortable thinking everyone in the room is fitter and thinner than them!

As people started coming in I noticed that there seemed to be a real range of shapes & sizes, ages, men and women. Body Pump is designed so you are totally in control of the weights you are lifting and can take it as easy, or as hard, as you feel comfortable with. The people in the class were really friendly (thanks to the lady who made sure I had the right weights for the last bit!), and I didn't really feel like the newbie - I just sort of blended in.
The instructor was fantastic, so enthusiastic and had a great rapport with his class. He ran through the program with me before the class started and made sure he was keeping an eye on me throughout it (but didn't make me feel self conscious). It was fast paced and I struggled to keep up at points, but you could tell that with a bit of practice you would soon get the hang of it.

Would I do it again - definitely! Although I have a funny feeling that my legs are going to be like jelly and my arms will feel like noodles tomorrow! But I'd still do it again, it was great feeling my muscles respond and the endorphins racing around my body.

I also had a look around the gym and as well as lots of modern cardio & resistance machines, there was a free weights section which is great for bodybuilding enthusiasts. This area is totally separate (but still open plan) so it's also good for people who may be a bit intimidated by the muscle men at the weights!

Without exception, the staff I came into contact with both on the phone and in person were friendly and helpful. The car parking was easy and the changing facilities were clean and fresh. There is even a pool so LA Fitness really does cater for everything.

So I'd say try it...you might just like it!
