Still not sure? Have look at our review. After a hard week at work, we were off to Peterborough Raceway for some fun. My partner and I arrived nice and early after spending the whole journey deciding who the best driver was. We were greeted at reception and directed to where we’d find our suits and helmets. I of course picked out the lovely pink one and whipped it on. Leon jumped into his, then right on cue the marshall arrived. We went to the briefing room, where we were sat in front of a big wall that tells you exactly what all the lights and signals on the track mean. When asked if we’d done it before, we both said, “Yes, but only a little bit” and he went on to tell us all the rules and made sure we understood. Helmets firmly on and the reputation of female drivers resting on my shoulders, we proceeded to the karts. I jumped in the one at the front, adjusted my seat and hit the throttle! It was just a brake and an accelerator - hardly rocket science! It was only me and Leon on the track and we had 15 minutes ahead of us. A little more careful to start with, we did a couple of laps to get the feel for the track and then we decided to officially start the race fair and square. Both of us were, by this point, absolutely beaming at each other through our helmets and the fun of just 2 laps kicked us both from amicably competitive, to a pair of adrenaline fuelled little monsters, determined to beat the other one at any cost! Obviously, I took the lead immediately and was absolutely elated when after about 5 minutes, the “men are better drivers” assured boyfriend still could not get past me. Eventually, I was overtaken and it just got more exciting by the second. Who knew that driving could be so exhausting too? We continued with gritted teeth and after some more changes in position, Leon was the victor! (Clearly I let him win). The red lights were flashing and the marshall directed us back into the pit at the side. It really took it out of us, we were both saying how tired our arms felt from the excitement. It seems 15 minutes is a lot more challenging than you’d think. Until they gave us a print out with the lap times on – we sent the whole time bickering who was fastest. I was beaten overall by 6 thousandths of a second, so I don’t think I did too badly! There’s much more to this place than meets the eye. There’s a bar and café upstairs and even a conference room. When it comes to events on the track, Peterbough Raceway have everything from Arrive ‘N’ Drive sessions to Iron Man, from Childrens’ Parties to Corporate team building days. We’re definitely going back, I’m going to prove my driving skills once and for all… The race continues… | |||
