Police Arrest Man in Dereham After Shotgun Allegedly Fired

A 27 year old man has been arrested today following an incident in Dereham last night during which two shots were allegedly fired from a shotgun.
Armed police and a helicopter were called to the incident, which took place in Suffolk place at about ten last night.
The man, who is from the Dereham area, was arrested this lunchtime and is being questioned by detectives in Wymondham.
Police in Dereham have launched a search after a man was seen in the street last night firing a shotgun into the air.
It happened at around 10pm on Suffolk Place. Armed police, dogs, and the helicopter were sent to the scene.
A nearby home was searched and a gun was recovered.
Breckland Policing Commander, Chief Inspector Paul Wheatley, said:
"There will be increased police activity today in the Dereham area as officers continue to search for the suspect.
"The weapon recovered from the property matches the description of the gun the man was seen to be armed; this has been seized and will be examined.
"There is no information at this stage to suggest that the wider public are at a risk and local residents can be reassured we have a number of officers working on this investigation.
"Local officers will be carrying out reassurance patrols and anyone with concerns can contact police by calling 101.”
