The Queen has started a series of visits to West Norfolk

News > KLFM News

The Queen is also Honorary Air Commodore of Royal Air Force Marham and she visited the station and its personnel.

Her Majesty’s focus was on those personnel who had been part of Operation ELLAMY and people who had supported the campaign.

The Queen visited one of the Marham Hangars where she was shown how Operation ELLAMY began.

Her Majesty first spoke with members of No IX (Bomber) Squadron who were involved in the early planning of the operation. She was then shown to the Tactical Imagery-Intelligence Wing and was shown the technology that was used to provide world class intelligence over Libya.

After viewing a Tornado and it's weapon payload the Queen was then introduced to the Community Support and Welfare teams who supported the families whilst their loved ones were deployed.

As Her Majesty exited the Hangar the children of Marham Infants School sang a song and presented her with a spring bouquet.

On arrival at the Officers Mess Her Majesty was received by the President of the Mess, Squadron Leader Charlie Donald and the Chairman of the Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Mess, Warrant Officer Dave Honour. Her Majesty then attended an all ranks Reception before taking lunch with a cross section of RAF Marham personnel.

After lunch she sat for a commemorative photo with the Station Executive and Warrant Officers before signing the visitors book. As the Queen left RAF Marham she was waved off by dozens of local school children who had waited by the Main Gate to catch a glimpse of her as she starts a very busy Diamond Jubilee year.

The Queen is attending more events around West Norfolk over the comnig weeks.
