TV Star Roseanne Barr In Bid For White House
American TV actress Roseanne Barr has announced she is running for the Green Party's presidential nomination.
The comedienne, who was the star of her own, self-entitled TV show in the 1980s and 90s, has said that she is a long-time supporter of the party and looks forward to working with people who share her values.
Barr said the two major parties are not doing enough to serve the American people.
"The Democrats and Republicans have proven that they are servants - bought and paid for by the 1% - who are not doing what's in the best interest of the American people," she said.
Barr has submitted paperwork to the Green Party for her candidacy.
The actress said she has been fighting for working-class families and women for decades.
"I will barnstorm American living rooms," she said in a candidate questionnaire submitted to the Green Party.
"Mainstream media will be unable to ignore me, but more importantly they will be unable to overlook the needs of average Americans in the run-up to the 2012 election."
Miss Barr later posted on Twitter: "Vote for me, I'll fix this s***! Barr 2012."
The party's presidential nominee will be selected at a convention in Baltimore, Maryland, in July.
Barr's hit sitcom, Roseanne, which also starred John Goodman, aired from 1988 to 1997 and earned her an Emmy and a Golden Globe.
She also had her own talk show which was first broadcast in 1998 - running for two years.
The mother-of-three lives on a 46-acre macadamia nut farm in Hawaii where her reality show Roseanne's Nuts is filmed.
