My first radio show had an audience of just one! The songs would have included The Lion Sleeps Tonight by Tight Fit and Meatloaf's Dead Ringer for Love, it was 1981 and I was in my Bedroom with my Mum and Dad's old stereo. 16 years passed and I realised that after working in a warehouse, as a postman, in telesales and as a stock taker for a national chain of newsagents, radio was for me. I managed to get my foot in the door at my local hospital radio station in Bury St Edmunds where I worked voluntarily for 7 years and learnt a great deal about the dos and don'ts of radio. During this time I created demo tapes which were sent to countless radio stations across the UK including KLFM who replied with the standard ‘Thanks, but NO Thanks'. Somehow though in 1991 I got a part time job with the BBC in Ipswich where I became part of the team responsible for the Saturday Sport Show, which was great because it meant I could put BBC on my CV. Meantime I was still working as a postman and noticed that one the people on my round just happened to be the boss of the radio station I had been sending tapes to, so at 6:30am in the morning I knocked on his door, got him out bed and hand delivered his mail, which could of gone through the letterbox. I introduced myself and as you might imagine he never forgot me after that. I continued to send tape after tape until eventually he caved in and got my first show on the radio at Ten17 in Harlow. KLFM heard my show in 1998 and invited me to Kings Lynn for a chat and I never left! During my 11 years at KLFM as you might imagine my life has changed dramatically... I bought my first house, sold it and got another, met my wife and got married, had twins and worked my way through just about every show on KLFM until I found myself where I am now - on the most listened to Breakfast Show in West Norfolk. I would just like to say thanks for putting up with me all this time and for letting me wake you up each day, it's honestly the best job in the world, despite the early alarm call every day. Thanks for listening! Si
