May 2017

16th May 2017

Good luck to everyone taking GCSE's this month.  It might surprise you to hear it wasn't actually that long ago that I found myself in exam conditions, about 5 years as part of the show I retook Maths at Springwood High and to my surprise even improved my grade.

I can remember spending hours revising, something I didn't do when it mattered, and the hard work paid off I can’t even describe how it felt to get the grade I did.   Ultimately you can only do your best, but it's important you do.

Results aside I'm a true believer that if you want to do something, if there's a career you want, you can do it no matter what but a head start would be good exam results.

Good luck.

Helping the community

10th May 2017

Last week the Mayor of King's Lynn & West Norfolk gathered together 32 local charities in his 'front room' at the Town Hall to share and talk about what they do for our area and the people who use their services.  Not only was it a chance for them to network and share ideas with each other but also an opportunity for others to learn about the help they have  available if needed and to perhaps volunteer to help the charity yourself.

Armed with KL.FM cakes from Nelson's Cottage Bakery, Ross Birkenshaw from the King's Lynn News Centre and I  took time to chat with and interview every single organisation to learn a little more about what they do to help publicise and promote their great work, for example:

The make custom made equipment for people with disabilities for free and showed us some of their amazingly cool and life changing inventions. For example one of their clients due to illness was unable to do the simplest of things such as blow his nose due to muscle degeneration.  Remap came up with the idea of a simple plastic ball with a slit in it so that when you squeezed it would grab a tissue for example, thus solving the problem.  This goes to prove the simplest ideas are the best ideas.

Little Discovers

They help children aged between 0-5 who have physical difficulties and delayed development to learn new skills.  For the past 11 years they’ve been successfully helping children who have movement difficulties and delayed development.

The Benjamin Foundation

They provide accommodation for homeless and vulnerable young adults aged between16 to 25 and help them get their lives back on track.

Lavender Hill Mob

These guys really are inclusive bunch of talented people.  They are a voluntary theatre company who create original work which is then performed by people from all walks of life, everyone is treated as in individual and they don’t exist for those that society labels as talented.

West Norfolk Community Transport

They are a fully accessible, door to door service for urban and rural communities, they operate a regular, local bus service which is provided by volunteers.

Community Action Norfolk

They support voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations and aim to build a stronger, fairer Norfolk

All of these charities and community groups will feature on Local Radio Day on Friday May 26th.  I’ll be on air for 13 hours straight giving these organisations the publicity they deserve whilst loving our area.
