Gratitude Angels

Good morning I represent a group of volunteers who make up the Gratitude Angels. We are looking for donations of foodstuffs and smellies to present to keyworkers that are working during the coronavirus pandemic. We have already donated boxes to Schools, Doctors surgeries, care homes, funeral directors and pharmacies that have had to keep working throughout this worrying time. Our volunteers are based all over Kings Lynn and cover all areas of West Norfolk for both collection of donations and receipt - all while following the social distance rules. We are looking for donations like Tea, Coffee, Biscuits, Cakes, confectionary etc. We have already had donations from some local business ie. British Sugar, Hain Daniels, Princes Long Sutton and Bookers plus our local community - but we need more! If anyone can help no matter how small please contact as follows and let us put a smile back on the faces of our keyworkers without whom we could not continue a small part of normality at these difficult times. We also have a facebook page Gratitude Angles through which you can donate leaving a message.

Fairstead Youth Club - Can you help create one?

A New Youth Club for Fairstead

Discussions are taking place in Fairstead with the aim of establishing a youth club following concern from community leaders that there is not enough for young people to do on the estate. Local church leader Ola Adegoke, from the King's Glory Church, and Emma Brock, from the Community
Shop, approached the West Norfolk Youth Advisory Board (YAB) for assistance and the three organisations are now working together to form the youth club.
Organisers hope for a club to run on Tuesday evenings with two sessions: one for 8-11 year olds and one for 11-16 year olds. Activities will be run from the Community Centre and the Multi Use Games Area.

Roger Partridge from the YAB explains: “The first task is to formalise a club committee and for that to happen we need more adults to come forward. Once the committee is formed and a bank account opened we can move to access grants and be in a good position to start the club as soon as possible after
the lockdown. We’ll also need some volunteers to take a turn in staffing the club once it starts.”

YABs are Norfolk wide, youth-led bodies of Young Commissioners (aged 11-19 and up to 25 with a disability) and adult professionals who work together to make positive change for young people and their communities. . A YAB operates in each district area of Norfolk. Each year, the YAB asks young people in West Norfolk about the issues that matter to them

Over 1,000 young people living or studying in West Norfolk took part in the 2019-2020 youth consultation. 33% of respondents said that ‘a lack of activities and things to do’ affects them or their area, and emphasised the need for opportunities for young people to socialise safely and take part in positive activities.

If you would like to help establish a youth club on Fairstead please contact youth worker Roger Partridge

on 07736 561973 or rogerpartridge@map.uk.net to find out more or register your interest.

The 2.6 Challenge - The Purfleet Trust

Purfleet Trust call on supporters to join
the 2.6 Challenge from Sunday 26 April 2020

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a big impact on UK charities with the cancellation or postponement of thousands of events and the loss of billions in income through fundraising events.

The Virgin Money London Marathon alone, which should have taken place on Sunday 26 April, is the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event, which raised more than £66.4 million for thousands of charities in 2019.

Like so many charities across the UK, Purfleet Trust has been impacted by the cancellation of fundraising events due to COVID-19. They have seen fundraising fall following the postponement of several events including the GEAR. In response, the organisers of the biggest mass participation sports events across the country have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help our fundraising and save the UK’s charities.

Purfleet Trust are asking supporters to join in the nationwide 2.6 Challenge, which will launch on Sunday 26 April 2020 – what should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon. The challenge will last for a week.

Please join the challenge if you can. Any amount raised, no matter the size will make a big difference at Purfleet Trust enabling them to carry on with the vital support they provide, so you can rest assured that your money will make a big impact!

Clients who have moved into temporary accommodation so they can safely socially distance during the pandemic have been so grateful for the support provided by the Purfleet Trust team. One person commented “having a roof over my head and three meals a day is saving my life, the Purfleet staff have all been so great and really made me feel like I’m not alone”.

If you are able to please complete your own challenge and help support vulnerable people in your local community or if not please simply share with your friends as they might like to join the challenge!

For more information on The 2.6 Challenge, visit twopointsixchallenge.co.uk. You simply add Purfleet Trust as your chosen charity when you set up your donation page.

We’re all in this together!

The 2.6 Challenge is open to anyone of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing and remember to stay local.
