Mayor's Business Awards nominations open

MBA launch 1

Published at 11:10am 4th November 2016.

Entries are being invited from local businesses for the Mayor's Business Awards, which have opened today.

The awards, originally established in 1989 by former mayor Councillor Les Daubney, are a public acknowledgement of outstanding business achievement and recognition of the contribution that local businesses make to the economy of West Norfolk.

Borough Mayor, Councillor David Whitby, said:

"Throughout my year in office, I have visited many areas across the borough and it has been obvious to me how business in West Norfolk is continuing to develop. I have been fortunate to have been invited to the launch of many new innovative business ventures from future young entrepreneurs. Their visions and commitment to enhancing their business and expanding is testament to the quality of the workforce West Norfolk has to offer.

The business awards give businesses the chance to showcase their achievements and win one of the many prestigious awards and I wholeheartedly urge all local business men and business women to participate and take time to fill out the nomination forms."

Councillor Brian Long, leader of the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk, added:

"We are a very businesses-focussed council and for many years have listened to the needs of the local business community. This is more important than ever with uncertainty over Brexit and exchange rates making exports difficult.

Many local businesses have demonstrated how hard work, determination, innovation and entrepreneurship have helped them take advantage of opportunities and overcome the significant challenges we are seeing in the current economy.

Retailers in the town centre have no doubt benefitted from the increased footfall that we have seen as a result of the summer events programme. We have committed to fund a similar programme next year and will continue to work with other partners to expand on this where possible.

We will continue to listen and work with the local business community and would like to thank them for their continued efforts which support west Norfolk's economy.

The Mayor's Business Awards are a real opportunity for business owners to show the people of west Norfolk what they are made of, and we are glad to be able to join forces with the Lynn News to enable this remarkable celebration of success and achievement to take place."

The Mayor's Business of the Year Award, sponsored by the borough council, is a prestigious award acknowledging businesses that have made a noteworthy achievement during the last year or during a period culminating in the last year.

Councillor Alistair Beales, Deputy Leader of the borough council, said:

"It gives me great pleasure to see the tradition, started by the council in 1989, being continued. Thriving businesses are vital to our local economy and it is only right that we recognise and acknowledge the contribution that they make. Businesses in the area continue to face challenges, find innovative ways to overcome them, and to enhance and develop their business, which is something we must all applaud."

Entries for all the awards can be made by clicking here.

Entries must be received by Friday 2 December. Shortlisting of the finalists will take place by the end of the year, with judges visiting the finalists during January. The winners of the Mayor's Business Awards will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony in March 2016.
