South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss will be holding a meeting with Govia Thameslink (GTR) on Friday to discuss the future of the Railway Arms and cafe at Downham Market station.

The Railway Arms closed in late October 2016 and Elizabeth is keen to ensure a replacement facility is in place as soon as possible.

The site is operated by train company GTR and once repairs are completed on the building, new tenants will be sought to run the café. Elizabeth commented:

"The Railway Arms and cafe proved to be a fantastic asset to the station and town so I was extremely disappointed when it closed. I am keen to ensure that the building is put back into use as soon as possible and will be meeting with representatives from Govia Thameslink, local councillors and the Fenland Users Association to discuss this.

The station is one of the key gateways to Downham Market and the Fens so it is vital that we maximise the potential of the site."
