£1million of Road-Works Needed in West Norfolk

£1million of Road-Works Needed in West Norfolk

West Norfolk roads have got some of the worst damage in our county...

Norfolk County Council has warned that it may have to spend more money here, and have more road works here, than anywhere else in the area.

It's because the drought last year was bad for the soil structure underneath.

Paul Donnachie is in charge of resurfacing Norfolk’s Roads. He says they have got some government money that can be put towards improvements:

“We did receive a block of additional funding after severe weather last winter and also for pothole repairs. Out of that money we’re going to be directing about 1 million pounds towards resurfacing works in the West of the County.”

But people living in other areas of Norfolk are being told they won’t be left completely without help with potholes.

“We do try and spread it around, and we recognise there is a need across the county. In fact we have a backlog of works that we are trying to address. But there are calls on County Council funding from all sorts of directions and we have to balance up those differing needs.”
