Supporting staff at the QE

Finding out how the QEH is recovering after the Beast from the East.

Hospital bosses are telling KLFM that staff faced unprecedented pressures during and after the heavy snowfall.

It took a real strain on those working there and now the Trust is looking at how they can recruit more support.

Low staffing levels has been a problem at the Queen Elizabeth for a long time.

But Chief Executive John Green has been talking to KLFM about some of the things they're doing to find new faces.

He said:

"We have plans for regular recruitment days which have been successful recently.

"We've got plans to recruit non-registered HCAs (health care assistants) and we will recruit more of those so there are extra hands on the wards.

"In the longer term we have a agreement we will bring in a number of Philippine nurses starting in summer.

"They'll be coming through in 5s or 6s for an extended period of time to support numbers coming through here."
