Flying into RAF Marham ahead of schedule

Published by Chris Craddock at 5:35am 17th May 2018. (Updated at 6:58am 17th May 2018)

The new additions are coming into land at RAF Marham two months ahead of schedule!

F-35 Lightning fighter jets are being flown in from the US at the start of next month.

Once the new jets are here in Norfolk - they'll be jointly manned by the RAF and the Royal Navy.

617 Squadron is currently training with the UK’s F-35 Lightning jets in America before they start flying to the UK.

Their Commanding Officer, Wing Commander John Butcher, said:

"I have the great privilege of leading a jointly manned Squadron made up of the best engineers, mission support personnel and pilots from the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.

"The spectrum of missions we can undertake in the F-35 will be huge and we have to make sure we are ready to do whatever is asked of us."

Sadly it means we're also saying farewell to the iconic Tornado fighter jet, which took part in RAF Marham's Freedom Parade for the last time earlier this month.
