Stay safe around Norfolk's coast

rnli in action at sheringham

Published by Chris Craddock at 5:54am 14th June 2018.

Things are heating up in Norfolk this week which means our coastline will be busy.

With temperatures set to stay warm next week too - we're talking to the RNLI about the best ways to stay safe while enjoying a dip in the sea.

Despite what it feels like out there - the water is still very cold.

We sent KLFM's Daytime Presenter Ben Norris out to take the plunge with the RNLI in Sheringham.

They showed him what to do if you're going for a swim or if you find yourself in danger.

Simple techniques can keep you safe and make it easier for the RNLI and lifeguards to rescue you.

Nick Ayers from the station said:

"When we say "Get used to the water" we want people to get used to the temperature by splashing their face.

"Then we just want people to go in gradually instead of diving in.

"Already it's a lot colder than you think and all rescue situations happen because of panic.

"When that sets in your brain will do anything and everything to survive.

"So what we say is "Don't Panic" and just lie on your back and float."
