Tougher sentences for people who attack emergency service workers are due to be passed this autumn.

Norfolk police officers faced more than 500 assaults last year.

A total of 518 incidents were recorded in the year to March, according to data from the Home Office.

But the Police Federation believes the true figure may be much higher.

Lorne Green has been expressing his views on his Twitter

Lorne Green, Police and Crime Commissioner for Norfolk, agrees that offenders should have significantly longer sentences.

He told KLFM:

"Too many of them are being assaulted, including in King's Lynn being the most recent.

"Nobody gets paid to go to work and get assaulted.

"We're all at risk if those who are committed to keeping us safe themselves are sitting in the A&E at the Queen Elizabeth on a Saturday night as victims rather than on the front line protecting us".
