If you hear this on the phone in Norfolk then you need to hang up.

That's the message coming from our county council's trading standards.

Fraudsters are pretending to be from a telephone service to get your details and cash.

Variation of cold calls

Lots of people have been told Telephone Preference Management Service need their details.

It's believed to be a variation of cold calls that claim to be from Telephone Preference Service.

Those said:

• They are ‘checking details and if you still wish to be registered with the TPS’, the caller then attempts to gather personal information and credit or debit card details from the call recipient

• They are offering a service that can stop ‘all cold calls’ for a monthly, annual or ‘lifetime’ fee

Always hang up

But anyone calling up claiming to be from TPS is lying.

They will never get in touch asking for payments or bank details.

If you're worried about this - call Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06.
