Don't be caught out by this in Norfolk

stolen oil in the boot of a car in norfolk

Published by Grace Mcgachy at 6:01am 12th January 2019.

It's an issue that increases over this cold winter in Norfolk.

Police are urging us to be vigilant and make sure our oil tanks are secure.

It's after a recent increase in thefts of heating oil, diesel and gas cylinders across North Norfolk.

General tips to protect your fuel include:

  • Check oil levels frequently so you are aware if anyone has tampered with your supply, and consider an electronic oil level gauge which sets off an alarm in your house if the oil level drops below a quarter full.
  • Fit a good quality locking device to all fuel tanks
  • Consider perimeter security for the whole tank, such as a metal cage or fencing. Even a prickly hedge may help deter thieves.

If you have been a victim of oil theft should contact Norfolk Police on 101.
