Coastguard called out to Heacham

One person was left with severe hypothermia in Heacham this afternoon (22nd April). 

It's after two people were stranded in an inflatable kayak, both were taken to hospital by paramedics. 

The Hunstanton Coastguard were called out at around 4:20pm this afternoon to reports of people in the water. 


When crews arrived on scene they found members of the public had also entered the water to try and rescue the pair in the kayak.

The Hunstanton RNLI Hovercraft was requested to assist.

Once the coastguard had got to the waters edge, the casualties had made it back to ashore.

All of those involved where checked and it was soon established that medical attention was required.

The casualties were transported up the beach on the Hovercraft to awaiting paramedics.

The members of the public were checked and were cleared, the two original casualties both needed hospital treatment, with one suffering with severe hypothermia.
