"Everyone loved Chappy."

A Docking mum is paying an emotional tribute to her son after he took his own life last week.

Joseph Anthony Chapman - also known as Chappy - was only 19-years-old when his body was found on Wells beach.

His mum Victoria Dawn Chapman wanted to make sure his memory lives on:

Norfolk Police were called to an area near the Pinewoods Caravan Park at around 9:40am last Thursday (11th July).

That's when Victoria arrived on the scene.

She told KLFM about the moment when an officer told her that her worst fears were true:

"He was asking who I was and what I was there for and I was just saying please don't tell me, don't tell me my boy is dead.

Chappy was very close with his siblings

"But I just knew - we just felt like we weren't quick enough, we weren't quick enough.

"What makes it so hard is that everyone loves him and you try to go to that last hour of his life.

"You just want to know what was going on in his little head.

"Chappy is Chappy - he liked to party and his friends used to sing this song saying they all want to drink with Chappy because Chappy is their mate.

"But he was quite an awkward person - even his hugs were awkward and he'd stick his chest out in an odd way.

"The one thing I used to teach my children is to be there for each other and they have so much love for Chappy - he used to come over and spoil them.

"Luckily the day before he took his own life - I messaged him saying I love you and he messaged back saying I love you too."

Support has poured in for Chappy's family since this tragic moment and it's moved Victoria and her loved ones.

They're now planning Chappy's funeral and are asking all those who attend to wear a black cap like the one Chappy loved wearing.
