A serious church fire that broke out in Wimbotsham this morning is now out.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue told KLFM that crews will be dampening down the scene for the next hour, but it's likely they're going to be there for the rest of the day.

They were called shortly after 6am to St Mary the Virgin Church on Church Road, when they arrived the church was "well alight" a spokesperson said.

The road leading up the the church has been shut off while fire crews work.

Photos appear the show that part of the building's roof has been destroyed by the flames.
