"Your Credit Card has been used to make a purchase abroad."

The phone call some Norfolk residents are getting.

Trading Standards are warning us about cold calls using pre-recorded messages.

  • Previously Norfolk Trading Standards have had reports of recorded message calls stating:
  • Your credit card has been compromised overseas’
  • An attempt has been made to transfer £600 from your bank account’
  • This is Mastercard, an attempt to purchase an item for £600 has been made on your card’
  • This is Visa, an attempt to purchase an item for £600 has been made on your card’
credit card

Following these initial claims, the message will then give press button options which have included:

  • To prevent further transactions’
  • To speak to security’
  • To speak to our fraud team’

Trading Standards always advise people to be very wary of claims made during telephone cold calls.

If you receive this or a similar recorded message call our advice is DO NOT interact with the call and HANG UP.

It is likely there are several variations of these calls quoting different amounts and reasons for the call.
