The Head Boy at Springwood Sixth Form is encouraging people to talk about mental health through his music.

William Coase wrote 'Other side of the door' about his own experience but realised it could help other people.

He wrote it about his struggles with anxiety which actually all began while performing on the stage.

To mark the release of his new song, he's organised a fundraiser at Springwood on World Mental Health Day (10th October) to raise money for charity.

The singer-songwriter hopes his debut single will encourage his peers to talk about their own mental health.

William's been performing in the local area in concerts at the King’s Lynn Corn Exchange and at events including Festival Too since the age of four.

His Dad had a huge influence on him. He said:

"I’ve had a musical upbringing due to my father being a local professional musician who was well-known in King’s Lynn and the surrounding area.

"Unfortunately, he passed away last year and it would be nice if his legacy can live on through me."

It was when William showed his Dad the song that he suggested it could resonate with other people:

"My [song] was something that was more personalised for me and it was just about my symptoms and how I deal with it but then when I showed it to my dad back in 2017, he said actually this can be applied to a lot of other mental health issues and I thought well this is amazing, this material can inspire others."

Here's a little sneaky preview of the song

He wants to encourage other people to share their experiences through creativity, whether that's music, drawing or photography.

His anxiety started when he was performing but has now started to creep into every day life. KLFM asked him how he manages to face his fears head on:

"I have a passion for music so I think okay I'm gunna be nervous but I've kind of got this attitude that when I'm starting to do my own songs that people can see me specifically.

"That's an amazing experience when people are actually coming to see you."
