James Wild replaces Henry Bellingham in North West Norfolk

James Wild replaces Henry Bellingham in North West Norfolk

James Wild is the new MP for North West Norfolk.

He won a 42.7% majority in the 2019 General Election.
That's a massive increase of nearly 15% since the 2017 election.

KLFM spoke to him after he found out his campaign had been successful.

What are his priorities for the next term?

"Top of the list is the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. We need more investment there. I've already spoken to the health secretary during the campaign and I'll be speaking to him again soon after I've talked to the management of the hospital about what's needed and that's top of the list. That's really important to the people of this constituency and more widely across the area we need to get more funding.

"I'll be getting sworn into the Commons I think Tuesday or Wednesday next week, then the Queen's Speech and then I'm expecting the Brexit bill to come before Parliament on Friday and I'll be there voting for that for the people in North West Norfolk who have given me a huge vote of confidence to take the country forward and then focus on the priorities here of the health service, schools and transport."

He came under fire from KLFM listeners when we posted his 60 second video as he does not currently live in the constituency.

He and his family are looking to move to the constituency. He said:

"I'm looking forward to being based here permanently obviously we'll be in London as well as we'll split the time between parliament [and here]. One of the difficult decisions will be choosing where to spend our time."

Sir Henry Bellingham first won the seat in 1983 and held it consecutively until 1997 when Labour briefly won the majority. He won it back in 2001 and has held it ever since.

In the wake of being told to apologise to the House of Commons for making an inaccurate declaration of interests, he later stepped down and announced he wouldn't be running in this winter General Election.

James Wild stepped in to run as a candidate. He ran as a candidate for North Norfolk in the 2017 but ultimately missed out to long standing Liberal Democrat candidate Norman Lamb.
