Now that Christmas is out the way lots of us will be looking ahead to the new year.

But it's important to set realistic, healthy goals and resolutions.

When we don't reach our goals it can have a big impact on our mental health.

While the festive period over Christmas and New Year can be a fun and exciting time, it can also be particularly stressful and many experience the January blues.

KLFM spoke to Josh Elms and Hannah Rawlings from the mental health organisation Wellbeing.

Wellbeing Norfolk & Waveney provide a range of support for people with common mental health and emotional issues, such as low mood, depression or stress.

Josh does community Engagement and Hannah is a trainee CBT therapist.

"Usually New Year resolutions are usually for quite positive things like to get healthy or be more productive.

You should maybe have a look at what those resolutions mean and why you're doing them.

You've suddenly got all this extra pressure on you.

It's about not comparing yourself to other people because you're going to get that onslaught of gym selfies in January but then you think, maybe I should be in the gym maybe I should be doing this.

Don't get suckered into this Instagram world of comparison."

Tips for New Year resolutions

  • Make them realistic
  • Make them achievable
  • Make them something that will make you happy or change your life for the better
  • Don't forget about your mental health as well as your physical
