A Wisbech woman who attacked her ex-partner with a carving knife, laptop and mop handle after he broke up with her has been jailed.

31-year-old Carlene Bennett met the victim (in his 60s) three years ago and they began a relationship.

He ended things mid-2019 - and just weeks later, Bennett turned up at his work to find out he wasn't there.

She rang him and hurled abuse down the phone, saying "I will kill you and you won't know it's coming."

The next morning, Bennett let herself into his house and came face-to-face with him in the kitchen.

She cut his arms, hands and neck with a carving knife found in a drawer while he tried to defend himself.

He tried calling for help on the landline, but Bennett grabbed a laptop and hit him around the head with it.

Thinking she'd gone, the victim raced upstairs to ring police but she returned, hitting him with the handle of a mop.

After finally managing to get Bennett away from his property, he called for help - and when officers arrived, they found him with multiple injuries.

Carlene Bennett of Stow Road in Wisbech denied GBH without intent but was found guilty after a two-day trial at the Cambridge Crown Court and sentenced to two years and two months in prison last Thursday.

DC Kevin Poole investigated:

"Bennett couldn't contain her anger that the victim had ended their relationship but her reaction was grossly disproportionate.

"She caused a number of injuries in a vicious and unprovoked attack and I am glad justice has been served."
