Fenland District Council will make sure parks, streets and fields across the area are given a spring clean this year.

It's embracing the Great British Spring Clean and everyone is encouraged to get involved.

Last year, hundreds of Fenland locals got involved - and this year should be even bigger!

The event is organised by Keep Britain Tidy and takes place between March 20 and April 13.

Anyone wanting to get involved can join a litter picking event (listed below) or organise their own.

The council will provide free litter pickers, equipment and bags to anyone holding their own event and will arrange for rubbish in bags to be collected.

Councillor Peter Murphy said:

"As a Council we already sweep the streets and collect litter seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year - cleaning over 11,000 miles of streets and 210 million square metres of open spaces.

"We are supported by our fantastic volunteer Street Pride groups and individuals who help keep their towns and villages clean and tidy throughout the year - but there is always more work to do.

"Research shows that people are more likely to litter where litter is already present, so small actions can make a big difference.

"This year we'd love to see even more people get involved as we take a stand against litter and stop it from damaging our environment."
