WW2 veteran turns 100

A Freebridge resident has been celebrating in style this week as he turns 100.

Charlie Long, who lives at Horleys Court in King's Lynn hit his centenary year on Sunday (23 February) and was presented with some special treats from Freebridge the day after.

Chair of the board Andy Walder was on hand to dish out a specially made card and cake.

Mr Long shares the property with his wife Margaret and the pair were joined by their extended family at various points throughout the weekend. Between them, they have 7 children, 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The pair moved in to the Freebridge sheltered housing scheme in 2009.

Originally from Norwich, Mr Long moved to King's Lynn as a young boy. He is a WW2 veteran, having landed on Omaha beach during the Normandy landings.

Andy Walder, chair of the Freebridge board congratulated Mr Long on reaching this milestone age and said:

"I'm pleased that Freebridge were able to be part of such a special occasion for Mr Long and his family. Reaching 100 is a great achievement and I feel privileged to have met him and his wife."
