Do you have any photos, memorabilia or memories of VE Day in Fakenham?

If so, the History Group would love you to share them with them at the church on Monday 4 April between 10am-midday.

They're putting together a display, which will form part of the 75th anniversary celebrations in the town on Saturday 9 May.

The Town Council will be holding a free afternoon of events in the Market Place from 1.30pm.

VE Day

There will be a Fancy Dress Competition for adults and children, so dust off any 1940's clothes lying forgotten in the loft! The Fakenham Town Band will be playing Glenn Miller and other music from the time and the Swingtones will be singing popular songs from those far-off wartime days. Retailers in the town will be able to join in too by decorating their shops with a properly patriotic window display.

Whilst the theme of the event is celebratory, there is a more serious side. Fakenham, like most places, had sent many young men off to fight in North Africa and in Europe.

The Royal Anglian Regiment will be coming along with a display of military equipment. There will also be a display of privately owned military vehicles.
