Apprentices at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn have shown how distinctly great they are by achieving top marks in their exams.

Laura Thomas, 24 and Emily Giles, 21 have both received Distinctions in their HR and Business Administration exams.

Assistant HR Business Partner Laura has achieved the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Level 5 qualification, while Emily, an Outpatients Receptionist, has received a Level 3 in Business Administration.

To achieve the Level 5 qualification, Laura had to demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviours of a learning and development professional.

She said:

"I was very surprised to receive the distinction, but pleased that all the hard work had paid off. This recognition opens up a lot more doors for me to go forward. It will provide a lot more job opportunities which will enable me to improve."

Her role involves working closely with managers around the hospital to provide support with sickness appraisals, training, health and wellbeing and equality and diversity. She also leads on HR projects, including change management and employee relations.

Laura, who comes from King's Lynn, added:

"I enjoy the variety of the role. It is very rewarding to help someone return to work or improve their experience of working at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital."

Emily, from South Wootton, said:

"I was shocked, to be honest, to receive the recognition. It opens up doors for me with my future career."

She praised the support she had received from colleagues to help her with her successful exams.

"They have been a massive help. They have given me time to revise and time away from the site. The job is always busy; there is always something to do. I enjoy helping patients and making sure they have got the best care they need."

Cath Castleton, Acting Director of HR, said:

"I'm thrilled for both Laura and Emily and congratulate them on their achievements.

"I'm also excited to see apprenticeships making a positive difference at our Trust and would encourage anyone who is interested in a similar opportunity to check out our current opportunities which can be found at http://jobs.qehkl.nhs.uk/"
